The moment we’ve all been waiting for! On August 8th, Black Pink had their showcase for their debut album ‘Square One’ at Seoul Gangnam District’s Shinsa-dong.
At the showcase, Black Pink’s Jisoo stated, “The group does feel a bit burdened about being the first girl group in seven years to come out from YG. However, we will try our best to put our best foot forward and put on the best performances so that we don’t give our sunbaes a bad name.”
CEO of YG, Yang Hyun Suk, was also present at the showcase. He reflected on how he first debuted a girl group called Swi.T twenty years ago, but the results weren’t that great. And then how seven years ago, he debuted 2NE1. “I do feel burdened and worried about launching another girl group since it’s been a while,” Yang stated.
He also revealed why 2NE1 hasn’t been active, to which he replied, “It’s a bit difficult for 2NE1 to promote at the moment. But Black Pink is now YG’s representative girl group to break the long hiatus. That’s why I’m paying extreme attention and care to them.”
The agency disclosed its new girl group’s final members Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rosé through its official blog.
The group’s name is Black Pink and it is YG’s new girl group 7 years after 2NE1’s launching. The members’ average age is 19 and they had hard trainings at the agency for 4-6 years.
YG’s executive producer Yang Hyun Suk initially planned to make a 9-membered girl group, but he finalized the members as four and tried to make them more talented. Moreover, he picked Teddy as Black Pink’s main producer.
Black Pink has a meaning not to see them just pretty – all you see is not everything. Moreover, as a modifier black goes in front of special items, it means a special girl group.
Black Pink officially released their MVs ‘BOOMBAYAH’ and ‘WHISTLE’, and already both videos are getting over 400,000 views in just 8 hours.
