Girls Generation is in a midst of controversy after an online user posted on to an online community that he found a copy of Wonder Girls’ album at a secondhand bookstore which had hand-written messages to Girls Generation members.
A user uploaded a picture of Wonder Girls’ “2 Different Tears” album on to DCInside.com on Thursday, claiming that he bought the album at a secondhand bookstore for 2,000 Korean won (approximately 1.7 US dollars).
“I have something to ask. This is my first post.” The user wrote. “I bought this album at a used bookstore near home and I found out the album had autographs from the Wonder Girls’ members. From the messages, I assume this album was a gift to the Girls Generation members. Am I right? I bought this because it was so cheap. 2,000 won.”
The messages written on the cover of the CD says “Girls Generation sisters, I have always been your fan. Your songs are great!”, “Pretty Girls Generation members! Taeyeon, Jessica, how are you guys doing? Let’s go out and grab a meal soon!” and other greeting messages from the Wonder Girls members.
Many online community users assumed that the album was a gift from the Wonder Girls celebrating the release of the album. It is a tradition among Korean artists to hand out new albums with personal messages to fellow artists upon the album’s release. If this album’s genuine, this situation could mean that the Girls Generation members disgraced Wonder Girls, possibly the group’s agency JYP Entertainment by throwing away the gift.
Nor the Girls Generation or SM Entertainment made any comments on this matter. It is very likely for them to stay silent and move on.
Wonder Girls fans all over the world will be able to tune in and catch their favorite group soon in a live chat.
According to JYP Entertainment, the Wonder Girls will sit in with New York’s music station, Z100, and hold a live online video chat with fans. The one-hour chat will be viewable live by anyone with an internet connection in the world through the official Z100 website.
Following the online chat, the Wonder Girls will go on the radio platform, iHeartRadio for an exclusive show. Previously musicians such as Usher, Ne-Yo, Justin Bieber, B.O.B and more have appeared in the same platform.
A representative for JYP Entertainment said, “The Wonder Girls are holding a wide-range of promotions for fans all over the world through the exclusive show and live online video chatting. We ask for your continued support in the Wonder Girls who are creating new history for K-Pop.”
