Five months ago was released one of the most catchy songs ever in kpop, “Boom Boom” is still until these days in the charts due to his upbeat rhythm and the vibe it transmits, it’s undeniable that the title song of their EP “Great” is amazing but today we will talk about the recently dropped new EP. Personally, I was a bit worried about if Boom Boom would turn this new EP into a new version of the song, but after listening to it I stay with a good taste of it and probably not because of the reason you’re thinking.
Momoland could have committed a big mistake working around their past success, in the first moment that I heard Baam disappointment started to become a reality but after playing it a few times it actually distinguishes enough for not think of it as a copy, but still, nothing to surprise. A big joy was the second track, “Veryvery”, in the instant heard the synthesizers started a big smile portrayed in my face, especially the rap where they didn’t try a mainstream rap or a beat change as their last two title tracks, this one actually flows really good with the song and place on a pedestal the vocal abilities of the members and reminiscence a bit of YuBin’s “Lady”.
“Bingo Game” on the other side was a bit weird to me, in my opinion, it has a big JPop influence, which doesn’t mean its bad or something, I actually enjoy it for a person who is not a fan of the genre, it just a feel that it doesn’t match as a whole inside the album but by itself is a really interesting song. My opinion about the last song “Only one you” is vague, it’s a pretty standard pop song with a good vocal layering and has a lot more work than it seems in the first view.
Overall I’m quite happy with what I heard and will check more about Momoland, even though their title track is not the right one, in my opinion, Veryvery could have shown the versatility of the group but in a business perspective is understandable, this EP knew how to distinguish itself from their past works and shows how versatile the girls can be, my expectations for their next album are higher than before so sure ill be waiting for their development as artists.
As a final recommendation, I would suggest hearing the instrumental version of “Baam”, this will help you to see the differences between it and his predecessor.
