One of the most anticipated summer blockbusters this year is “Train to Busan,” South Korea’s first zombie-oriented apocalyptic horror film — to premiere worldwide at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival before its nationwide release in Korea.
Korean media distributor NEW released new stills of the upcoming film Thursday, presenting a glimpse of what is to come.
Actor Gong Yoo will star as main lead within the dark travelogue as the horror of disease, confinement, and human nature gets unleashed within a high-speed train. Former member of K-pop girl group Wonder Girls Sohee will play the role of a high school student who claws her way to survival. Other noteworthy casts include actress Jung Yumi and actor Ma Dong-suk.
“Train to Busan” will be director Youn Sang-ho’s first live-action film after his acclaimed 2011 animation “The King of Pigs.”
The film is scheduled for premier during the festival’s Midnight Screening — the festival’s out of competition section. The time slot has not been finalized yet.
