Since its popularity, “Squid Game” fans have been desperately waiting for any confirmations on the sequel of the series and finally, the director himself has explicitly confirmed that there will be a second season!
On November 8th, a special Los Angeles screening event for Netflix‘s sensational series “Squid Game” was held which was attended by both the writer-director of the series Hwang Dong-Hyuk and the cast members. During the red carpet interview with extratv, creator Hwang Dong Hyuk confirmed that there will indeed be a second season of the series.
When asked about the status of the series’ sequel, he stated, “So, there’s been so much pressure, so much demand, and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us with no choice. But, I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen. So I will promise you this, Gi-Hun will comeback and he’ll do something for the world.” [Seong Gi-Hun, the main character of the series is played by Lee Jung Jae.]
Previously, in an exclusive interview with Variety, Hwang Dong Hyuk had also mentioned that he would like to work with a team of writers for ‘Squid Game 2’. He stated, “If I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors.” With a bigger team working on the sequel, we can expect an even bigger ‘Season 2.’ However, Netflix has yet to confirm the renewal of a second season.
