Rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae posted another personal best to win the bronze medal in the individual all-around at the FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Sofia, Bulgaria on Sunday.
Son earned a total of 74.200 points — 18.600 in clubs and 18.400 in ribbon on Sunday, and 18.550 in hoop and 18.650 in ball the previous day. This was 0.300 point higher than her previous best, set at the World Cup in Pesaro, Italy in April.
Russia’s Yana Kudryavtseva, a three-time world all-around champion, won the event with a score of 75.750, followed by Ukraine’s Ganna Rizatdinova with 74.250.
Son turned 22 on Sunday. After the competition, she was presented with a bouquet of flowers and treated to a surprise birthday song by members of the crowd.
