MANILA – In an exclusive group interview with Nichkhun from 2PM and actor-host Alexander ‘Xander’ Lee [also a former U-KISS member], they’ve shared their experiences during the One Night Food Trip International Edition Season 2 shoot in the Philippines. They were up against Filipino celebrity cousins Danica Sotto-Pingris and Ciara Sotto in a battle involving exotic flavours and cultural attractions to earn stamps and take home the Golden Passport.
Here are TOP 5 things that Nichkhun and Xander shared during the interview:
When Nichkhun was asked if there are any Filipino dishes he hoped would be included in the show’s menu since he has visited the country a few times before – he simply said that he cannot spoil anything yet but they were able to try some Filipino cuisines that he really loved.
Xander revealed how Nichkhun becomes speechless when he likes the dish, the latter demonstrating how his eyes get bigger with an excited facial reaction. It is something to watch out for in the show.
Nichkhun jokingly hoped that their stomach-stretching would not get cut on the show. He compared eating to exercising where they had to do warm-ups for their stomach to be able to fill in a lot.
Xander wanted to associate himself to any sexy/crazy food but took it back with a Filipino lingo “Chos!” [Joke!]. The foods that will best describe him are the popular local snack, ‘Halo-Halo’ and the fruit Durian. He described how Halo-Halo is a mixture of every food and how it is available to different countries; and as a Durian he stated that, “…[Durian] you like it or you don’t like it…you don’t like me or you don’t like me now – [still] I’m the king of the fruit!”, Nichkhun supported him by saying “…bottom line is, he [Xander] is a fruit.”
Xander knew the basic local expressions like ‘Ay Sarap!’ / ‘Masarap!’ but both artists agreed that the expression “MMM” is the universal language when it comes to food. Nichkhun said that the trip helped a lot because he learned about the Filipino culture, also laughingly said, “He [Xander] tells me a bunch of things, a lot of it was nonsense, but a lot of it was very helpful.”
