McDonald’s Teams Up with Global Pop Star and Asian American Influencers to Launch Bacon on Classics with Fun Commercial
Featuring singer Amber Liu and internet personality Mike Bow, spot was directed by Wong Fu Productions
Chicago, Ill – February 5, 2019 – McDonald’s has partnered with global pop star Amber Liu, digital influencer Mike Bow and content creators Wong Fu Productions to develop a television ad announcing the addition of bacon to three of its widely-loved Classic menu items.
Filmed on location in downtown Los Angeles and directed by Wesley Chan of Wong Fu Productions, the 30 second spot bit.ly/2RD1mzJ features Amber and Mike debating the question “Is Bacon the best thing to happen to McDonald’s Classics? Or are McDonald’s Classics the best thing to happen to bacon?” — and concludes with them settling the debate with a dance off.
Amber, a Global Pop Star, and Mike, a YouTube star and actor, were recruited for the McDonald’s spot after celebrating their love for all-things-bacon in a viral parody music video. Wong Fu Productions has had a long history with the Golden Arches and has featured numerous menu items in their videos.
“When I worked with Amber on the bacon parody video, I never knew it would turn into an opportunity like this,” said Mike Bow, who has appeared on such shows as Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder. “It’s great to be part of such a diverse campaign with an incredible mix of talent both in front of and behind the camera.”
To promote their McDonald’s commercial debut, Amber and Mike has shared exclusive digital content — including behind the scenes footage from the shoot — on their official Instagram and YouTube accounts and invite fans to join the McDonald’s Classics vs. Bacon debate on social media. The spot, which is the first for the brand to tap into viral content as inspiration, is part of a national advertising campaign to launch Classics Now with Bacon.

For a limited time, customers will be able to try the Bacon on Classics line-up at participating restaurants nationwide beginning January 30, which includes:
● Big Mac Bacon: An exciting twist on the iconic fan-favorite’s 50-year history, three pieces of crispy, thick-cut Applewood smoked bacon adorn two 100% all beef patties, lettuce, cheese, pickles, Special Sauce and onions on a sesame seed bun.
● Quarter Pounder with Cheese Bacon: Three pieces of crispy, thick-cut Applewood smoked bacon added to the hot and deliciously juicy fresh beef** Quarter Pounder burger cooked right when you order.
● Cheesy Bacon Fries: McDonald’s World Famous Fries topped with real cheddar cheese sauce and Applewood smoked bacon bits.
