“Triple Threat” Korean superstar Lee Seung Gi finally graced the Philippine stage for the first time in a one-night-only fanmeeting entitled Vagabond Voyage in Manila on October 12, 2019 at the New Frontier Theatre. Seung Gi fans, also known as Airens, got to bond with the actor through a series of activities especially prepared for Seung Gi and the fans.

Missed the fanmeeting? Here are our takeaways from this special night with Lee Seung Gi!
Seung Gi remains very modest amidst all his accomplishments in the Korean entertainment industry.
Seung Gi has been in the industry for more than 15 years, and he remains as relevant as ever in the scene. His secret? His hardworking and noble attitude. They say talent could take you one foot through the door, but hardwork and passion would be your key to pulling your other leg to step and walk inside. And Seung Gi has that. He earned numerous prestigious awards through the years (Wikipedia dedicates a page just for a list of awards where he won/got nominated). When asked what kind of award he still wants to get, he said if there’s an award out there for being the most diligent and most humble person, he would want that.
Children’s energy overwhelms him.
When asked about his experience in the Little Forest variety show, he said that it was an unforgettable experience because through that show, he was able to understand children in a whole new level. He had a lot of joy, but he felt like he doesn’t want to do it again because children are so tiring. (Editor’s note: Oh Seung Gi oppa, you need to endure it for our future children. xD)
He doesn’t have a stunt-double in most scenes in ‘Vagabond’.
Seung Gi said he’s very proud of this drama. The production quality gets better with each episode so the fans have a lot to look forward to. If you check out the drama’s official trailer, every second is filled with difficult action scenes. Well guess what — Seung Gi did most of it by himself. “It was scary,” he told us, “but I trusted my team and they trusted me.” That chase scene in the trailer took them two weeks to film, while that “jump on car” scene was shot in 4 hours, and you see merely 0.2 seconds of it in the trailer. He did endure some injuries on set. Noticed that band-aid on Seung Gi’s forehead on episode 7? He said it was not a prop. :O
Seung Gi doesn’t know how to cook.
He seems like the perfect guy, but I guess there are things that he still needs help with right? (Ed’s note: and that’s where we come in! We’ll cook for you oppa!) During the “Date with a Fan” part of the show, Sam Oh, the night’s host, asked him what was the last dish he prepared. He embarrassedly said “ramyeon“. Despite that, he tried his very best to complete the task of preparing a bento box from the various ingredients on the table presented to him. That meal had his personal touch (literally!) because he prepared it with his bare hands! He decided to create a gimbap made with seaweed sheets, rice, mashed egg white, cheese and sliced grapes. Through random selection, one fan got picked from the crowd and received that very special bento box.
He is very athletic.
His ability to do physical activities was very evident during the Bon Voyage game part of the show wherein he, together with fans onstage, needed to finish tasks under time pressure. He could kick a ball very well and even do double unders on the jumping rope! Daebak!
He speaks English well.
There were some parts during the show wherein Seung Gi straightly answered questions from the host (didn’t need the help of the translator!) and directly interacted with the fans. When he saw one lady in the audience wearing a wedding gown, he asked “Why are you wearing a wedding dress?” and “I didn’t know this was my wedding” while grinning.
He’s got powerful vocals.
As if he’s not already perfect as a multi-talented actor and MC, he’s even blessed with heavenly vocals. The show opened and closed with song numbers, and he really proved that night that he deserves the “triple threat” badge on his profile. He showed his music versatility by serenading fans with a ballad song titled Return(되돌리다) and then offering an energetic stage with Smile Boy.
The night ended with a surprise video for Lee Seung Gi from his Philippine Airens, with the fans singing and waving their banners that read 우리가 유일 하게 사랑하는 이승기 (Lee Seung-gi, the only one we love).
It was indeed a memorable night. Seung Gi said he was happy to finally be able to be in the country to meet his fans. For sure, the fans are sharing this sentiment.
Until we meet you again, Seung Gi! <3
