It doesn’t seem long ago when a girl called Heize was debuting in Unpretty Rapstar, a melodic voice completing her rap, helps her reach the semifinal, but this was just the beginning, her name blew with two collaborations with the well know Korean singer/producer Dean on the tracks “And July” and “Shut up & groove” for her second mini album. The development as an artist and an innovation in r&b scene took her to win awards like “R&B Discovery of the year” and “Best vocal performance female solo”.
After eight months of waiting, we have a new mini album of Heize, this time “Wind” is a six-song project where well see a collaboration with Davii in arrangements, composing and featuring him in the track “Wish you well”. In this occasion Heize is going for a more melodic album both in instrumentals and singing, the title track uses fantastic piano progressions together with voice, a dynamic that will be emphasized along the album, I’ve to say I didn’t expect Heize vocals would be this good especially considering her rap-focused career but she could find the balance between the well know rap rhythm and the r&b feel, there’s clearly a lot of vocal training behind.
This album has a lot of work in the background, for example, the back vocals make you feel a deepen sensation together with the amazing work in piano this album had, especially in “Jenga” and “Wind”. Davii collaboration in this album was key, in “잘 살길 바래” his voice complements Heize almost like they’ve been working for years together; this album has been a total success both musically and fans reception speaking, fighting for the first places with groups like Mamamoo and IKON.
We’ll never hear a bad song coming from Heize but she has been overcoming herself with every album, maybe it’s not a characteristic sound from her but undoubtedly is an amazing composed and interpreted album together with Gaeko and Davii, she’s on the race this year also for awards ceremony, let’s see how the album develops these weeks and we hope Heize keep this amazing work she is doing right now.
