G-Dragon, BoA, BTS, SHINee, Hwang Chi Yeol and more artists won at this year’s Korea Popular Culture & Arts Awards!

This year’s Korea Popular Culture & Arts Awards marks their seventh annual ceremony, which recognizes achievements of 30 artists who has been acknowledged for their contribution and efforts to the society as great artists and role models.

In 2012, the South Korean boy group SHINee previously won the Minister of Culture Award, marking its second time to be awarded in the ceremony. Meanwhile, it is BIGBANG’s G-Dragon first Korea Popular Culture & Arts Awards but he didn’t personally received his award due to his schedule.

G-Dragon, BoA, BTS, SHINee, and Hwang Chi Yeol have won the awards, along with other artists such as Lee Kwang Soo, Song Joong Ki, Song Hye Kyo, Yoo Ah In, Jo Jung Suk, Hwang Jung Eum, Jo Jin Woong, Ock Joo Hyun.

SHINee thanked the public and Shawols everywhere for their support and promised that the group will “work harder to advance the pop culture”.

BTS or the Bangtan Boys received the 2016 Pop Culture Award during the ceremony. The award is given to those who promote societal status of pop culture and inspire people.

BTS has been highly recognised for being one of the most influential male idol groups that tackle about school bullying, pursuit of happiness and rejecting society’s ideals through their lyrics. Billboard is all praises for their “Wings” album which tackles mental health and delivers a women empowerment anthem which is considered unusual because South Korea is culturally conservative and most singers stick to safe topics like partying and breakups.

Choreographer Son Sung-deuk, who has choreographed dances for many famous artists including BTS, also won an award for his work!

“First, we thank our fans. Also, we could only have received this great award thanks to our sunbaes who paved the way well…We think the award means that we should work harder to spread K-Pop to the rest of the world, and we will work hard. Thank you.” -Rap Monster

Congratulations and thank you to all the winners in this year’s Korean Pop Culture and Arts Awards! Korea’s pop culture shines a lot all over the world because of super talented and hard-working artists like you.
