“A Groundbreaking investigation you’ve never tasted before!”

South Korean film, Extreme Job which was released on the 2019’s Lunar New Year season has reached 12 million viewers on its third week and its popularity keeps rising.

LEE Byeong-heon’s new comedy film had a relatively small budget but unexpectedly accomplished a gargantuan success. Extreme Job is now the most commercially successful Korean comedy of all time.

“Extreme Job” may be able to achieve a box-office threshold of 14 million. Only three South Korean films were able to reach that kind of success so far—”The Admiral: Roaring Currents,” “Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds” and “Ode to My Father”.

ENG <Logline>

A team of narcotics detectives goes undercover in a fried chicken joint to stake out an organized crime gang. But things take an unexpected turn when the detectives’ chicken recipe suddenly transforms the rundown restaurant into the hottest eatery in town.

ENG <Synopsis>

The narcotics team works hard day and night, but their performance remains at an all-time low, leading them to become the ugly duckling of the police department and potentially face dismantlement. Captain KO gets intel about an international drug deal and embarks on a risky undercover mission with his entire team. In order to establish around-the-clock and up-close-and-personal surveillance, the team takes over a rundown chicken joint across the street from the drug gang’s safe house. But things take an unexpected turn when Detective MA’s yet unrevealed culinary talents begins to shine, turning the chicken restaurant famous overnight. Should we chase chickens or criminals?

When customers begin to flock in, undercover work gets pushed to the back burner so the detectives can focus on frying chicken. As a result, the team misses the big drug deal, even though it happens right under their nose. Now, with nowhere to go, the detectives launch a desperate mop-up operation.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

LEE Byeong-heon

Having worked on screenplays of SPEED SCANDAL(2008), SUNNY(2011) and TAZZA-THE HIDDEN CARD(2014), Director LEE Byeong-heon has received much attention for his fresh characters and witty dialogue. He made his directing debut with the independent film CHEER UP MR. LEE(2012) and went on to receive wide recognition with TWENTY(2014), a coming-of-age film about three outrageous youth, and WHAT A MAN WANTS(2017), which tells the story of four rather immature adults searching for loves of their lives.

In EXTREME JOB, Director LEE Byeong-heon tells the story of five narcotics cops who run a fried chicken restaurant by day and an undercover operation by night. The usual but fresh setting coupled with witty dialogue once again proves the director’s comic genius that promises to keep the audiences hooked until the very end. In addition, the fast action and the humanism delivered through the characters promise to make EXTREME JOB a major comedy hit.

DIRECTOR LEE BYEONG-HEON OF TWENTY RETURNS WITH

A CLASSIC COMEDY THAT WILL DOMINATE THE CINEMAS IN 2019

Director LEE Byeong-heon proved himself to be a hit-maker with the comedy TWENTY (2014) that drew 3 million audiences. Now, he returns to the screens with EXTREME JOB that combines his trademark witty banter with the unique idea of using a fried chicken restaurant as the cover for an undercover investigation. EXTREME JOB tells the story of five detectives on the narcotics squad making the last-ditch attempt to bust a crime ring, using a fried chicken joint as the cover, and the consequences that follow when the restaurant gains popularity.

Director LEE Byeong-heon, who worked on the screenplays of SPEED SCANDAL(2008), SUNNY (2011) and TAZZA-THE HIDDEN CARD(2014) and went onto prove his comic genius in directing films such as CHEER UP MR. LEE(2012), TWENTY(2014), and WHAT A MAN WANTS(2017), says that he worked on EXTREME JOB with the motto “laughter brings comfort.”

One and all, the members of the cast heap praise on the film EXTREME JOB. “A unique and whimsical idea, but at the same time it is a story that might be taking place somewhere near you” RYU Seung-yong said. While LEE Hanee described the script as “Full of scenes that will make you laugh aloud throughout the movie,” JIN Sun-kyu describes it as embodiment of “Director LEE’s unique style of comedy.”

“It’s hard to find someone who is always doing well. I think that everyone has something special inside them, and there is a time when that special something shines through,” Director LEE said, hinting at a sense of catharsis EXTREME JOB will deliver.

EXTREME ACTION is a classic comedy that not only delivers action and laughter, but also deals with the hardships ordinary people face every day.
