The director’s cut of ‘Descendants of the Sun,’ a popular soap opera that ended in April, is going to be released in the second half of this year.
KBS2 and its associated media companies announced that, “We have decided to produce a director’s version of ‘Descendants of the Sun’ and it will come out on DVD and Blu-ray in the second half of the year.”

The director’s cut of “Descendants of the Sun” will be re-edited with unreleased scenes in the 16th episode. In addition, it will contain a making-of video, some music videos, and unreleased footage from other “Descendants of the Sun” episodes.

KBS decided to release the director’s cut after fans of the TV show launched the “Promotion of a director’s cut of ‘Descendants of the Sun’” web site and requested repeatedly that KBS produce a director’s version on DVD.
KBS and its associated companies said, “We’re releasing this director’s cut on both DVD and Blu-ray and it’s a result of all of our fans’ continuing interest and support.”

“Descendants of the Sun,” starring actor Song Joong-ki and actress Song Hye-kyo (no relation), was filmed entirely before broadcasting, was the first TV show to air simultaneously in both Chinese and Korean markets, and was a huge hit across East Asia.
