BTS is officially back with their sixth extended play, Map of the Soul: Persona and the music video for their new single, ‘Boy With Luv’ feat. Halsey released on April 12 at exactly 6PM KST.

Map of the Soul: Persona is a new album that follows Love Yourself: Tear and Love Yourself: Answer. This album which precedes the band’s Love Yourself: Speak Yourself world tour, is expected to reach new heights in sales and charts considering BTS being one of the most popular musical acts of today.
If you have already watched the music video, you would know that it is a highly artistic and genuinely bright work of art with profound messages to be learned.
The Boy With Luv is a smooth example of musical theatre. It starts with an appearance of the popular American singer and songwriter, Halsey, whose character seemed to have been waiting inside a ticket booth and then rushes to close it as soon as she realized that something is about to begin.

The next scene went on to show an outdoor building sign titled, “Persona”. The camera eventually reveals BTS members in their majestic pink and white clothing—ready to snatch our hearts all over again with their mighty fine existence.
Park Jimin opens the song with the sweet first lines saying, “I’m curious about everything. How’s your day? Oh, tell me.”

BTS has been teasing fans with their “curious about you” posts on social media and finally, we now know why. This song is like a poem from a boy who constantly wonders and cares even the small things about… you.
While it seems like a normal romantic song, we know it is much more than that; and the music video is here to take us into a whole new world with BTS!
Now, let’s talk about the keyword for this comeback. Persona.
Someone’s persona is the aspect of their character or nature that they present to other people, perhaps in contrast to their real character or nature. -Collins Dictionary

Looking at the music video, it is clear that it holds BTS’s story from debut to now. They are looking back into their first take on love and expressing a redefinition through music.
We can see a display of growth as they sing and dance from a normal diner to a grand broadway stage. This is somehow similar to the character from a 1952 American musical-romantic comedy film, “Singing’ in the Rain” (poster is often seen in the MV), who came from being a nobody to somebody that is adored by many.

From country boys to global stars. It is a success story celebrated in a beautiful music video in which BTS reveals each of their “Persona” as musical performers.

Suga is a different kind of normal. A very admirable one.
Map of the Soul: Persona is the first album in BTS’ MAP OF THE SOUL series. It is based on the book on the theories Carl Gustav Jung created for psychology called, “Jung’s Map of the Soul” by Dr. Murray Stein; an author who was pleasantly surprised and impressed by RM’s speech at the United Nations (UN).

In an interview during the ‘Speaking of Jung’ podcast, Dr. Murray Stein said that he saw RM as a boy with a sense of self. It was evident in the way he introduced himself during his first UN speech.
“An idol and an artist from a small town in Korea.”
In their album’s comeback trailer, RM’s Persona dropped a lot of hints as to what this era means to BTS. He is a boy who is still on a journey of identifying his core self and the different personas within himself, as well as respecting and acknowledging those sides of his character that made him who he is today—a person who is loved by many.
Someone who constantly tries to accept his own shadow, which is usually unwanted. Someone who tries to keep himself grounded every day and tells the world that self-love is daily work.
It was something that was very beautiful to hear from a young man.
RM did an incredible job with that comeback trailer. We are reminded that being always oneself is fundamental to be happy; that we all have to learn more and we never stop doing it!

With this album, BTS will resonate Jung‘s thoughts and ideas with their fans around the world. The songs in it will certainly contain hopeful messages that are highly valuable and needed for everyone to study and integrate into their daily lives, just like what Dr. Murray Stein said. Messages that can provide inner guidance and a calling to take responsibility for our own lives and everything around us.
