Throughout their three years in the industry, SF9 have proven to be sensational in terms of vocals, dance choreography, and even idol quality. The nine-membered boy group who debuted on October 5, 2016 and is managed by FNC Entertainment was the latter’s first dance boy group to debut. The group is composed of Youngbin, Inseong, Jaeyoon, Dawon, Zuho, Rowoon, Taeyang, Hwiyoung, and Chani. Two of its members have ventured into the acting industry: Chani, who have starred in the high-rated drama “Sky Castle”, and Rowoon, who have bagged the lead role in currently ongoing MBC drama “Extraordinary You”.
Here are the five tracks we have chosen that really proved SF9 not only their well-roundedness but also their sensationality in terms of performance and musical ability:
The group makes their highly anticipated debut with an upbeat title track “Fanfare”. The upbeat track which is amix of dance and hip-hop, together with impressive choreography, made SF9 known among the rookie groups who debuted the same time as them. The debut album, “Feeling Sensation”, where this track is featured on also debuted in eighth place in Gaon Album Chart upon its release.
“Easy Love” was the title track of their second mini-album “Breaking Sensation”, and this track showed the duality of the group. Composed by Shin Hyuk, who also participated in producing EXO’s “Growl”, “Easy Love” delivers a melancholic aura despite having upbeat moments in its verses. The song also highlights and express the feeling of heartbreak and separation.
O Sole Mio
Following the release of “Easy Love”, SF9 has experimented with their song genres again and this time, they have released “O Sole Mio” which is a combination of Latin pop and ornamentation. Together with the title track, the group have filmed in California for the music video, and has fully expressed their passionate feelings in the track and music video as well.
For this track “Mamma Mia”, SF9 integrated old-school rock and roll with contemporary pop music. As the group said in their showcase, “Mamma Mia”’s genre is high school music and they have watched the film “Grease” a lot as reference. The track was a complete 180-degree turn from those they released prior to it, but gladly, the reception was good for this title track.
SF9 has released a mix of EDM and pop rock for their recent comeback with the lead track “RPM”. The group described the track as “powerfully sexy” and the lyrics also describes the hearts of nine men who are bursting with love. The track also features a music video that consists of sci-fi and futuristic elements with a Tron-inspired vibe throughout it.
